Zoox

Foster City, United States

Zoox designs and builds its own robotaxi, developing both the hardware and software for a purpose-built, fully autonomous vehicle rather than retrofitting existing cars. The company was founded in 2014 and is now a subsidiary of Amazon following its 2020 acquisition. Its service targets urban ride-hailing, with robotaxi operations in cities including Las Vegas, San Francisco, Austin, Miami, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Zoox also runs an employee shuttle service at its Foster City headquarters. Zoox has raised roughly $955 million in disclosed equity funding across its rounds before the acquisition, though sources vary on the exact total. Its last round was a $200 million convertible note in 2019, folded into a Series C.
