The RAI Institute (Robotics and AI Institute) is a research organisation working to solve fundamental problems in robotics and artificial intelligence. Led by Marc Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics, it aims to make robots smarter, more agile, more dexterous and easier to use. Its research spans dexterous manipulation, learning-based control, data-driven foundation models for physical robot interaction, navigation in challenging environments, and the ethics of robots in society. Recent work includes juggling robots and reinforcement learning pipelines for quadrupeds and humanoids. The institute has partnered with Boston Dynamics on technology transfer for Spot and Atlas. It operates from Cambridge, Massachusetts and Zurich, Switzerland, with more than 250 researchers and staff.
