FarmDroid is a Danish maker of autonomous, solar-powered field robots that seed and weed row crops. Its robots use high-precision RTK GPS with roughly 8 mm accuracy to mark each seed, then mechanically weed between and within rows without cameras, and can micro-spray where needed. The current FD20 covers around 20 hectares per season, while the larger FD60, announced recently, handles about 60 hectares. Both are designed to run for many hours a day on solar power, with a built-in range extender on the FD60. The company says it has sold over 500 robots to customers in more than 20 countries, with a stated payback period of around 2 to 3 years. It was founded in 2018 in Vejen, Denmark, and has a small team of roughly 30 to 50 staff.
