WCB Robotics builds wall-climbing robots designed to take over dangerous work, starting with facade cleaning. Its flagship product, E.L.M.O. (Extremely Lightweight Mobile Operator), is a ropeless glass facade cleaning robot weighing under 15 kilograms. The robot uses a patented, contactless suction system and a water-based cleaning system that needs only about one litre of water per cycle. It is rated to clean up to 5,000 square feet of glass per hour, with around 90 minutes of main battery life and a 30-minute backup. The company targets the roughly 100 billion square feet of glass facades worldwide, most of which are still cleaned manually. It is backed by Goose Capital and TiE, and is preparing to deploy its technology on skyscraper windows.
