Oshen develops C-Star, a metre-long autonomous unmanned surface vessel powered by wind and solar energy for ocean monitoring and marine data collection. Founded in 2022 by Imperial College engineers Anahita Laverack and Ciaran Dowds, the Plymouth-based company builds self-orchestrating robotic swarms that operate at sea for over six months, gathering meteorological and acoustic data via satellite links. Oshen serves government and research customers including NOAA, the Royal Navy and the UK Met Office. Applications span weather monitoring, passive acoustics for ship detection and subsea infrastructure protection. The company raised USD5 million in Series A funding in August 2026, led by Lunar Ventures with backing from AlbionVC, Twin Track and maritime technology angels. Current headcount is approximately 30 employees.
