Saildrone

Alameda, United States

Saildrone builds wind- and solar-powered autonomous surface vessels, often called ocean drones, for maritime domain awareness, anti-submarine warfare, seafloor mapping and environmental sensing. Its Spectre, Surveyor, Voyager and Explorer platforms carry sensor suites and modular payloads, with the Spectre variants aimed at naval missions. The company says it has more than 12 years of operations, over 2 million nautical miles sailed and around 60,000 days at sea. Its customers include government and defence bodies, and it also runs missions such as counter-drug, border monitoring and illegal fishing enforcement. Founded in Alameda, California, Saildrone has an office in Washington, DC and a permanent operational presence in Copenhagen. Its recent $60 million round was led by EIFO, the Danish export and investment fund, to support European security and defence work.
