About the role

Position Overview International Motors is hiring a Robotic Weld Engineer - Night Shift in San Antonio, TX! Are you passionate about robotics, welding technology, and manufacturing automation? Join International Motors in a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll optimize robotic weld cells, support FANUC robotic systems, and drive improvements across advanced manufacturing operations. As the primary Weld Engineering resource on night shift, you’ll work directly on the production floor to troubleshoot automation and welding challenges, minimize downtime, restore production, and implement lasting solutions that improve safety, quality, and operational performance. As International Motors continues to grow in San Antonio, we are expanding our production operations with the introduction of a night production shift. The night shift is Monday through Thursday from 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM, with production planned to begin in early 2027. This is a salaried position supporting a manufacturing operation. While the primary schedule aligns with the designated production shift, employees are expected to provide operational support as needed to meet business objectives. This may require working outside normal production hours, including extended shifts, production startup activities, recovery efforts, and occasional weekend support based on operational requirements. Shift Differential: 10% differential upon transitioning to Night Shift work schedule. Responsibilities Serve as the second-shift welding technical expert, resolving robotic and manual welding issues hands-on on the production floor. Troubleshoot robotic weld cells, weld schedules, process parameters, fit-up, and equipment issues. Lead weld repair and containment when defects threaten production, applying hands-on manual welding expertise. Ensure repairs for cold welds, holes, missing welds, and other defects follow approved methods and quality standards. Own weld tear-down evaluations and use findings to identify failure modes and drive corrective actions. Lead root cause analysis and permanent corrective action for weld failures and fit-up concerns. Optimize welding processes to improve weld quality, cycle time, throughput, uptime, safety, and cost. Read and apply weld schedules, drawings, specifications, and process requirements. Support robot programming and troubleshooting, with Fanuc experience preferred. Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and suppliers on welding issues and improvements. Support launches, equipment commissioning, process validation, and production readiness to establish stable welding processes as operations grow. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of product manufacturing experience OR Master's degree and no experience OR At least 3 years of product manufacturing experience Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status) Desired Skills Hands-on experience with manual and robotic welding in production or fabrication, including weld repair and technical oversight of repairs. Experience diagnosing weld defects—including cold welds, holes, and missing welds—and leading containment, repair, and permanent corrective action. Experience with destructive testing, weld-quality validation, and process data to identify failure modes and prevent recurrence. Proven hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and repairing Fanuc robots in robotic welding applications. Experience adjusting weld schedules, process parameters, and fit-up to improve weld quality and process stability. Manufacturing experience in automotive, truck, heavy equipment, or high-volume body shop operations. Experience safely troubleshooting industrial electrical systems from 24 VDC to 480 VAC, along with pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation equipment. Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs (SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix) using RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Studio 5000. Demonstrated ability to lead root cause analysis and communicate corrective actions across Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering. Experience independently resolving production-floor welding issues and making sound technical decisions through containment, repair, and resolution.
