About the role
AutoStore™ holds a simple yet powerful vision: to store and move things for everyone, everywhere. Founded in Norway, we've grown into a global technology company. AutoStore uses advanced software to automate and orchestrate order fulfillment. Our goal is to ensure orders arrive faster than ever, with minimal environmental impact. That’s how we help brands exceed customer expectations. We have more than 1600 systems in nearly 60 countries, and we grow continuously as a community of employees, partners, customers, suppliers, and connected technologies. Automation should make life easier, and by listening carefully to our community, we innovate to meet the industry’s most complex needs. With AutoStore™, brands gain speed, efficiency, and improved workplaces. And much more floor space. AutoStore – moving things forward. The Role: AutoStore's mission is to make storage and fulfillment faster, denser, and more reliable for customers around the world. Our R&D organization turns new ideas in robotics, sensing, vision, and physical AI into commercial products. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you'll join a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, and test engineers and work closely with Product Management and technology partners. You'll own the embedded platform end to end, from the Linux-based compute running networked services down to the electronics that drive and synchronize lighting and sensors. Your decisions on architecture, interfaces, and components will shape which technologies AutoStore commercializes and how fast they get to market. This role suits an engineer who wants broad technical ownership, direct influence on the product roadmap, and the chance to build IP that ships in systems running in warehouses worldwide. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: • Architect and develop embedded software across the full stack, from bare-metal/RTOS firmware on microcontrollers to embedded Linux on application processors (BSPs, drivers, networking, system services) • Select, implement, and validate high-bandwidth digital interfaces (e.g., MIPI CSI-2, PCIe, USB 3.x, Gigabit Ethernet) and board-level buses (SPI, I²C, UART, CAN) • Interface with, control, and characterize lighting power electronics, including PWM/current control, strobe timing and synchronization with sensors, and bench measurement of performance • Evaluate the technical feasibility of new ideas and lead engineering trade-offs across performance, cost, power, and schedule • Work across hardware, mechanical, test, and software teams, and across cultures, to make sure solutions fit system requirements • Take concepts from prototype through detailed design, verification, and handover to production • Set and maintain good engineering practices, including unit and hardware-in-the-loop testing, CI, code review, and design documentation • Develop IP for AutoStore through invention disclosures and patents • Mentor other engineers and share knowledge across the team Key Qualifications: • 4+ years of experience delivering embedded solutions for customers in areas such as robotics, IoT, electronics, embedded systems, advanced sensing, vision, or AI/physical AI • Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++, plus Python for tooling and test automation, and Git • Solid experience with embedded Linux and networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet, time synchronization such as PTP) • Experience developing firmware for resource-constrained devices • Working knowledge of electronics: able to read schematics, lead board bring-up with EE partners, and understand power electronics basics (PWM, current regulation, thermal limits) • Hands-on lab skills with oscilloscopes, logic and protocol analyzers, and power measurement equipment, plus awareness of signal-integrity issues on high-speed interfaces • Experience writing unit tests and building automated or hardware-in-the-loop test setups • Proven ability to take solutions from concept to launch, including detailed designs, and to deliver on schedule using Agile methods and project management practices • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team • Excellent communication skills across organizational levels, and the ability to partner with experts internally to deliver a complete solution • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybernetics/Robotics, Embedded Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with depth in one or more of the following directions are highly valued: • Deeper into hardware: schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., Altium, KiCad); design of LED drivers or power conversion circuits; EMC/EMI experience • Into test engineering: designing test fixtures and HIL rigs, end-of-line/production test, DVT/PVT and reliability testing, test frameworks (e.g., pytest) • Up into higher-level software: edge/backend services, containers, messaging and middleware (e.g., MQTT, gRPC, ROS 2), OTA updates, secure boot and device security • Domain depth: camera and sensor pipelines, machine vision, or edge AI inference (e.g., GStreamer, TensorRT), radio based sensors (RFID, NFC) We Offer: AutoStore believes in taking care of employees and is dedicated to providing a supportive and rewarding work environment. Join us in our mission to store and move things for everyone, everywhere. • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution • Generous Paid Time Off including 12 holidays, paid exercise time, paid volunteer time, and paid parental leave plans for all new parents • Retirement 401(k) plan with employer match and discretionary profit sharing contribution • Educational assistance and professional development programs, including mentorship/coaching programs with external industry leaders • Additional benefits include Group Life Insurance, Voluntary Additional Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance programs, and more!
